Patrick Henry Elementary School
Dear Patrick Henry Fourth Grade Parents and Students,
We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer break. We want to officially welcome you to the new 2016-2017 school year! Students, we are excited to be your teachers this year and are eager to get to know you!
This year fourth grade is departmentalized by subject:
Mrs. Chang—Social Studies/Science
Mrs. Foxx—Reading/Language Arts
Students will be rotating throughout the day to each subject.
Our main goal is to be effective in your child’s education. Each teacher will have specific expectations for their classroom, but we wanted to give you an overview of our expectations as a team.
In an effort to enhance teacher/parent communication, each student will receive a behavior log every nine weeks. We will make notes in that log (if necessary), each class period, which may include a brief summary of how the day went for your student. Your child will be required to show the log to a parent/guardian each day if there are issues to address (not turning in homework, disrupting class, etc.). Parents, please initial or sign the log at home that evening if you see a specific entry. It will be checked the following school day by the teacher. This allows us to communicate effectively and holds the students accountable for their behavior and responsibilities each day. Students will have consequences if the behavior log is not signed by the next school day. If nothing was noted in the log, students are not required to have it signed.
We want to be available for questions and/or comments concerning your child. Our days will be pretty full with learning, so out of respect for your student’s educational time, we ask that all conferences be scheduled with at least 24 hour notice. If you have a question that can be communicated by phone call, the best time to reach us would be during our plan time which begins at 8:50 (except for Mondays when we have team meetings). If you call the office they will be able to forward the call or take a message for us if we are unavailable. One of the best ways to communicate efficiently is via email. We check our emails at least twice daily.
We are looking forward to a great school year and getting to know you and your child. This will be a great time to hear more about the curriculum your student is engaged with and each teacher’s goals and vision for their class.
Thank you for your support and involvement in your student’s education. We wish your child great success this year!
