On December 13th, 2019, joined by students, teachers, parents, district staff, and community members, Patrick Henry celebrated the groundbreaking of their new library.

The library project is part of a $415 million bond project passed by Tulsa voters in 2015. The new library will be 4800 sq. Ft addition and will double as a storm shelter and safe room for the Patrick Henry family.

The students and staff are so excited and are grateful to see the process begin.

"Today, we are here to recognize guests who were apart of this and to say thank you to the citizens of Tulsa," said principal Jene Carpenter. "We have been waiting to increase our library by size for many years, so this allows us to do this."

Dr. Deborah Gist also joined and delivered a message of gratitude.

"Thank you. Thank you to Tulsans for being so incredibly supportive of our bonds, which allow us to then be able to have buildings that are safe, warm, dry, and educationally conducive to learning for our children,”  said Dr. Gist. "Beautiful libraries that provide spaces for children to love and enjoy books and creation."

The Patrick Henry Eagle Ensemble then sang "The Thank You Song," which expressed their gratitude, excitement, and love for reading. They won't have to wait too long as the project is expected to be done by next summer.

"Even though technology is a wonderful thing, there's nothing that replaces a good book," said Carpenter. "Nothing will replace a library, not even technology."

Once Trigon Construction completes the library project next summer, they will begin renovating the school as a whole. That project is expected to be completed by the beginning of the school year.

Significant changes are coming for the Patrick Henry community. Please click here to see the groundbreaking on Facebook.
